Come From Away x Lomography: Stop the World Competition

"Stop the World, Take A Picture."

This is a pivotal idea in the smash-hit Broadway musical Come From Away, the Best Musical winner all across North America! The remarkable true story of Come From Away takes you to Gander, Newfoundland, where 38 planes were forced to land following the 9/11 attacks. The story follows the experiences of those 7,000 stranded travelers and the small town that welcomed them. On 9/11, the world stopped. On 9/12, their stories moved us all.

The "Come From Aways", as the residents of Gander referred to their guests, were from all over the world, all walks of life, and their interwoven experiences paint a deep and touching portrait of humanity, especially the way we can cling together to get through a crisis. The narrative points powerfully to the idea that sometimes circumstances beyond our control lead to beautiful situations that could not have happened elsewise. The friendships formed -- in real life, and depicted beautifully in Come From Away -- were to last a lifetime, a stark contrast to the expected outcome of such a well-known tragedy.

For instance, stranded travelers Nick, from London, and Diane, from Texas, would never have met had they not been stranded in Gander together. In one scene, as the two have begun to fall in love but recognize that the moment that is passing might be one of their last together, Nick stops to take a photo of Diane. That's the amazing power of photography: it gives us the power literally to stop time, to savor a moment forever and ever.

Come From Away is a master-work and that is why we are thrilled to announce that Lomography and Come From Away are teaming up for a competition to invite Lomographers to share their Stop the World photographs and stories for the chance to experience this for yourself. @hervinsyah The idea is to share a photograph and the story behind it that you used your camera to stop the world, and capture a memory in the moment. Make sense?

Stopping time maybe is a better description, or stay present, be in the moment....as you know the world keeps going regardless :) @hervinsyah

About step 3: "Remember to edit your photos and add at least 3 meta tags...", are we talking about the "tag" field or the "description" field of the editor?
