Kampung Serikin is a place that you must visit on weekends. Most of the tourists will go here and buy some souvenirs and unique items. It is a village located at the heart of Bau, Sarawak.
When I went there, I had my Lomo Fisheye 2 and Sprocket Rocket. The results of the pictures that I took were pretty awesome, I guess. It was a sunny day, with bright lights, lots of people, cars, motorbikes. All the different merchants were shouting here and there to attract customers. Bargain, bargain and bargain is the first rule of the game here. That is what you should do when you come here. Normally they will give you an expensive price but no worries, you can ask for a cheaper price as long as you have good bargaining skills or play hard to get.
The things that I usually bring along with me would be a litre of mineral water (in case of dehydration, cause it’s kind of dry and sunny there), a hat, a small towel (to wipe off sweat, oh yes you will!) and last but not least, MALAYSIAN RINGGITS! (Hell yeah! Of course you need money while traveling).
Most of the merchants here are from Kalimantan, Indonesia. They came from Kalimantan, Borneo and do business here in Sarawak. They only accept MYR (Malaysian Ringgit), as it is easier for them I guess? But that should not be a problem. The only problem would be, you will have to spend most of your time searching and viewing each and every item, as you will find many things that are interesting. And you surely want to get the best price, right?
Above pictures are some memories of me and my family in Kampung Serikin. Wink Share with me your stories if you happen to get to visit it too! LOMO On!
