Dock House Hotel, Cape Town
3 3 Share TweetDock House, a luxurious boutique hotel with only 8 rooms. Originally built as the Harbour Master’s private residence in the 1800’s, this grand architectural gem has been transformed into one of Cape Town’s most exclusive and elegant boutique hotels. It is situated opposite the graceful Time Ball Tower and its sister property, the renowned Victoria & Alfred Hotel, in the Waterfront’s Portswood Precinct.
If I didn’t travel to Cape Town during the off-season, I guess I could have never afforded it. But hey, we only live once.
I only stayed there for a night and I was the only guest! So I felt like the master of the harbor sipping my complementary champagne in a vast balcony overlooking the Time Tower, also known as the Clock Tower.
Unfortunately, due to the off-season, I couldn’t use the pool. The water was too cold, but not too cold for seagulls and pigeons who occupied it in numbers from the early morning.
It was a little weird staying there alone, especially as internet connection in South Africa is almost non-existent, so I couldn’t post anything on Facebook and so on, so I spent all my time at the balcony watching the sunset and the sunrise.
Little tip: Don’t eat your breakfast here, go to their sister hotel called Victoria&Alfred just across the road, they have so much better choices!
Another tip: Don’t get stuck here! Go and take a boat trip around the bay! it’s only 130 rands for 1.5 hours and you will never forget it!
