John Vanderslice is an experimental indie pop singer/songwriter from the San Francisco area. Known as a literate, ever-curious songwriter and sonic technician, Vanderslice has released several character driven concept albums over the past few years, his latest the 2007 release Emerald City.

John Vanderslice is an experimental indie pop singer/songwriter from the San Francisco area. Known as a literate, ever-curious songwriter and sonic technician, Vanderslice has released several character driven concept albums over the past few years, his latest the 2007 release Emerald City. Vanderslice also started Tiny Telephone, a small recording studio, in 1997. Boasting a variety of respected and experienced house engineers, Tiny Telephone gained a reputation as an affordable recording outlet for San Francisco’s indie rock community.

JV: i am new! i didn’t really understand until i got the photos developed. now i understand.

JV: i had my splitzer lens cap on and and a colored flash blazing away, my friend said: ‘what is going on with you???’

You’ve got great shots in color, black & white, and cross-processed slide film. Which style is your favorite?
JV: cross-processed

If you could be anywhere, doing anything, right now > where would it be and what would you do?
JV: well i’m in the south of france, in collioure, with my girlfriend, so i don’t think i’d change anything!

January 20th, 2009 is when the next US president will be inaugurated. In a perfect world, name the first three things that they would do after taking office.
JV: repeal the patriot act. scrap the foreign intelligence surveillance act. withdraw all troops out of iraq. WE CAN DREAM CAN’T WE?
