Test shot

This is a roll I shot this morning to test a used Nikon FA that I bought cheap (£60, with Vivitar 28-210mm f3.5-f5.6 zoom lens and Nikon Speedlight SB-15 flash) from a charity shop yesterday (13 October 2012). Most shots are overexposed, although I shot exclusively in Programme mode. The possible reasons for this include: weak batteries (they're the ones that were in the cam when I bought it, so I've no idea how old they are), a faulty light meter (always a possibility), the quality of the one-hour processing done by Boots lab (although I doubt this, as they've always done a good job before), and a very sticky ISO/ASA speed-setting dial (which programmes the light meter). With all these variables, it's really hard to say where the real problem lies. I will have to do further test rolls, I guess... Unless otherwise stated, all shots were taken with the Vivitar zoom lens, which I suspect is pretty crap, at least compared to the Nikkor 28-70mm 3.5-4.5D that a few of the shots were taken with).

    I should add that I shot the whole 24-exposure roll in about 20 minutes, not taking any great care with composition or anything 'artistic', so it's not one of my best albums. It's also worth knowing that the Nikon FA was the first-ever camera to use matrix metering, and also the first to have all four PSAM metering modes, so it was pretty revolutionary for its time (1983). Many of the shots in this album had tricky lighting conditions, and I was primarily testing how the matrix metering would handle them.

    Very nice album indeed. Why don't you use the manual setting and an external light meter?

    @jean_louis_pujol: My first roll was to test the P mode; my next one will test the A mode; the one after that will test the S mode; subsequently, I will test the M mode, as you suggest; by test roll 5, I hope to be controlling the camera purely by telekinesis... ;-)
