Going into the Metro is one of the Highlights of visiting Pyongyang. It might be the one place you get in touch with real Northkoreans. So being there is a frenzy and goes by in a breeze, when you shoot on film. Because you have to change films all of the time. One interesting detail is, that the trains are old metros from East-Berlin. So for me as a Berliner it's like coming home riding the subway in Pyongyang...

in 2001 Kim Jong Il discovered a waterfall, fingers crossed. According to the sound it makes it has been baptized Ulim, which means Echo. To celebrate and elevate this astounding achievement there has been built a little plateau plate, which marks the very point the great general gazed at the beauty of Ulim. We mimicked his actions and it felt good...
Going outside of Pyongyang was always was exciting. We were asked not to take shots, of what we saw on the road, but it was just too tempting. I think it is probably comparable to China 30 years ago. Lots of hard labour on the field and a certain degree of poverty. We saw the process of making salt - which In the DPRK is collected in designated salt fields - quite interesting. And I was happy to shoot some happy portraits at the nampo dam at the taedong river...
When we went to the victory museum in Pyongyang there was a strict rule, what we were able to photograph and what not. It was quite a treat, that I could make a portrait of our beautiful guide Troy. Normally it's under punishment forbidden to capture military personal, who make up 40% of all employées in the DPRK...
The Nampo Dam in the west of the Northkorean Peninsula is one of the great technological achievements in the DPRK, seperating salt from fresh water and creating energy. I got to capture some true patriots visiting the site...
