Autumn woodland walk from Sant Hilari Sacalm (Girona) to Pla de les Arenes. In the background the hills of Montseny can be seen through the mist - Les Agudes, Turó de l'Home, and Matagalls. In Pla de les Arenes (the sandy plateau) is the best restaurant in the Guilleries area - Can Cortals. Sant Hilari used to be a spa town, with a culture of fantastic cuisine. Unfortunately, the local economy that used to be quite diverse between tourism, wood turning, and water bottling, has contracted. Many of the superb restaurants have closed, but Can Cortals still holds its head up high, and the typical Catalan "esmorzar" - or brunch, can still be enjoyed in these magical "Lord of the Rings" surroundings.
