Jali.... from inside the Mosque at Sarkhej Roza.

The Jali is singularly the most popular element in medieval architecture of India. The Muslims, the Hindus, the Jains, the Moghuls, they all used the jali in their religious, residential and institutional buildings. Being advantageous for this climatic condition, they carved the jali in sandstone, limestone and even marble sometimes. The patterns and geometries used, the light the filters through it, the shadows it creates, are not even enough to describe the beauty of the Jali.
