Some photos from a recent trip to Japan. Kodak Ektar 100 (shot mainly at 200) and Fuji Superia Premium 400 (bought in Japan). The final shots were all a bit disappointing - the colours were somewhat odd on many images, maybe because I used a polarising filter on some, and had never used one before? Not such a great idea to play with something for the first time while on holiday! Leaving aside the photos -I took film because I wanted to use my eyes more than a camera viewfinder - and yeah, I'm lookin' at you, digital camera! - Japan is an amazing country, a place of quiet, meditative beauty and a place of curious oddity, a country of enormous and subtle cultural sophistication sitting alongside brash neon kitsch, a country that manages somehow to tame and enhance modernity and its technologies by embracing them in a delicate, gauze-like artistry that infiltrates everyday life. It was a revelation, I loved every aspect of the trip and will most definitely return.
