Höllentalklamm, Bavaria, June 06 2021: Probably the worst conditions I have subjected my 6x7 to - but that's to be expected in an alpine gorge that's still full of snow, raining from above, and has a river rushing below! The Höllentalklamm is worth visiting at any time of year (when it's open) but I was intrigued to see it as early as possible, while there was still snow and ice to add to the already dramatic visuals. My 05:00 start in the rain did not disappoint, the natural ice sculptures make the whole place feel like the back-corridors of Echo Base, (Hoth, The Empire Strikes Back) The conditions were brutal: Who knew it could rain upwards inside caves?! 😉 so deciding to shoot Cinestill 50D in the gloom didn't do me any favours either. It did however makes for some very focused thought, care, and attention at the time, (and some fiddly colour work later on too!) These are all with the 45mm f4, with tripod-mounted exposures around 1/2-1sec.
