What was your first impression of the new Lomography Petzval 58 Bokeh Control lens?

I have used the Petzval 85mm and Vintage Petzval Lenses on large-format camera, and the 58mm looks very similar. It actually even look much sexier and firmer than any other Petzval lenses, I simply fell in love with it!

What camera setup/s did you use with the Petzval 58 Bokeh Control lens?

I used the Petzval 58 on a Sony A7II with the adaptor.

How was your experience shooting with it? Did you encounter any difficulties?

It was such a great lens! Based on the past experiences on Petzval lenses, it feels exactly the same to operate.

Tell us about the photos you took, and why you chose to photograph the subjects with the Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Art Lens.

The Petzval lens was the first-ever portrait lens in history, its signature rendering draws the audience to focus on the subject.

I am a fashion photographer, so when I was first informed that I could take the lens to shoot, I had some ideas in my head.

Have you used the Lomography Petzval 85mm lens? If yes, how was your experience shooting with it? How does the Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Lens compare with the Petzval Lens 85?

If I have to choose only 1 lens, I will choose the 58mm. I am a 50mm shooter, my usual lenses on 135 format or medium format cameras are around 55-60mm equivalent. So when I first mount the Petzval 58mm on the camera, it felt like heaven.

Personally, I love to keep a reachable distance with my subject, so 58mm is a better choice to me. And the Bokeh Control ring is just so sweet, I can choose how swirly the bokeh to be like.

What do you like best about the Lomography Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Lens, or what do you think is its best feature or functionality?

The Bokeh Control function for sure! This is innovative!

Now that you’ve tried the Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Lens, what kind of projects, shoots, or subjects would you like to use it for in the near future?

I would like to shoot more fashion photographs with it. It is a special lens, using it on some specific projects will definitely enhance the final result.

What advice would you give to first time users of the Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Lens?

Just take it out to shoot something you really enjoy and try different level of Bokeh. Sometimes you would want minimal and sometimes you would crave for a really swirly Bokeh. Don’t be afraid to try out all level to find the most suitable setting for different photographs, it’s a great fun!
