Location: Karlsruhe, Germany

Please tell us something about yourself and what you do.

I turned 19 last February. When I was 18, I moved to Karlsruhe, where I now I live with my girlfriend. I’m a skateboarder and I love everything that enables me to be creative. For example, I do graphic design and I play guitar in a band called Finding Harbours. I also work as a draftsman and I want to become an architect someday.

How did you find the Lomography Community and who or what convinced you to join?

When I started shooting on film, a good friend told me where I can get nice films and all kinds of gear that I might be needing someday. That’s how I found out about Lomography’s online shop. I soon started browsing through the magazine section and it felt nice seeing how many people enjoy doing the same thing as I do. I like exploring the different photography styles of the community members. So, I just wanted to be a part of this community and I was interested in what others might think about my pictures.

Which among the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography do you apply in your everyday life?

I’m sure I apply Rule #10—Forget about the rules—the most. I have never studied anything about photography or finished a photography-related course. And I did that intentionally. I didn’t want to get influenced by anyone or anything and this allowed me to find my own unique style. I don’t know if I already have my unique style but I’m working on it.

In this digital age, why still film?

I’m always fascinated by old techniques and everything that has an old-school style. For example I drive an Oldtimer, an Opel Manta A from the 1970s. When I get to design a logo, I always start drawing my ideas and sometimes even the final result by hand.

The most interesting camera I have is an old Adox Golf from the 60’s. It doesn’t use any batteries at all. Everything is just pure mechanism and I love that.

Your favorite analogue camera as of the moment? Why?

My Canon EOS-1 is my most favorite camera. It allows me to take really high-quality pictures and it works perfectly. Of course, I also like the lo-fi, vintage-inspired styles but my Canon takes better pictures than many digital cameras nowadays and that’s awesome!

What is the Lomography camera you’d want to have someday?

I have never had an instant camera so I’d love to have an old Polaroid instant camera. But I don’t think about owning it that much because I am so happy with my Canon. I would rather go for a Petzval lens.

Any song or movie you live by?

There was a time when I always listened to the La Dispute’s “Rooms Of The House” album while I’m working on my computer or drawing but it would be too hard to choose only one song from it. Right now, I’m actually listening to “A Few Peaceful Days” by Crooks.

Share your current favorite Lomograph, could be yours or a friend’s.

My current favorite Lomographs are those taken by @maxbarthel. I don’t know him personally and we’ve never talked but I love his style and the moments and emotions he captures. Maybe because he obviously loves to skate as much I do. His photos captures a certain lifestyle that includes skateboarding, photography, and friendship. He looks like he is having fun while shooting photos in an artistic way.

Any Lomography Community member you look up to?

@jbjables! He’s a good friend of mine and he always helps me out with my photography-related problems like a broken camera. He’s the one who introduced Lomography to me. Besides that, this guy is just a piece of art himself.

What are you looking forward to in our Community?

I have already gotten so much positive feedback and I got to know so many great photographers. Of course, it would be awesome to be part of some magazine articles in the future. By the way, I took part in a big photography contest in Germany. The jury will meet on May. Wish me luck!
