In Moscow, two sculptural monuments in honor of N. Gogol. The first was created by the centenary of the birth of the writer in 1909 and was located at the end of Prechistensky (now Gogol) boulevard. Sculptor N. Andreev, architect F. Shekhtel. The second monument on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the death of the great writer in 1952 put, on the site of the first, in growth, with an officer's bearing, cheerful, welcoming passers-by. The inscription on the new monument, performed by N. Tomsky, causes bewilderment: "To the great Russian artist the words of NV Gogol from the government of the Soviet Union". All monuments to outstanding people were raised noble descendants on behalf of the people, on behalf of Russia, and not the variable component - the government!
Sculptor N. Tomsky, architect L. Golubovsky.
In the photo - the second monument, the Soviet one.
