Xtreme Challenge Alcalá de Henares 2024

These photos are from "Alto del Rey" viewing point and radio station, between Hiendelaencina and Aldeanueva de Atienza on the Xtreme Challenge "riders" event from Alcalá de Henares at the end of September, 2024. The riders are given four consecutive route cards to find their next destinations, and along the way, solve various puzzles, finding out-of-the way places where they are expected to take a selfie to prove they got there for a bonus prize. This year was around the Guadalajara and Segovia provinces, through the "pueblos negros" known thus for being built from black slate, and the "Puerta de la Quesera" - the Cheese-maker's pass. The whole event was over 500km long, and not everybody made it. Once again, on the black-and-white photos I used the red filter, this time with some success - I'm learning that for wide open spaces with lots of sunlight, it works really well - less so in dark wooded environments. Getting to the viewing point was a complete nightmare. Access was via a dirt track that left the main road and climbed up several km to the hermitage and radio station. Some brave characters tried it with road bikes and bald tyres - they have more guts than I do. I made it up on my KTM 890 Adventure, that is kitted out for off-road, with proper off-road Pirelli tyres, but some brave characters tried it (and not all succeeded) on their road bikes. Hats off to them for bravery!
