How shallow can DOF get?

Answer: very shallow! Testing out this vintage Nikkor 50mm 1.4 lens I got just blew my mind! DOF is a matter of centimeters. Love this lens, makes a good pair with the Nikon FE2.

@layalemheidly. These were shot on Agfa APX100 and developed with caffenol-C-L recipe. I wanted to try what this lens was capable of, so I think I had it at 1.4 almost the entire time. Having the aperture wide open is very good inside, but obviously not so good in a sunny environment (some outside shots were over-exposed). The 1.4 aperture is great for pics like this series, up close, short DOF, everything in the back is blurry. The further your focussing distance is, the less you will see the effect. I learned it is not the best idea to use 1.4 when shooting landscapes, wide scenes, basically anything that needs infinity focus (everything closer to you will be blurry, doesn't work very well).

I hope you enjoy your camera and lens as much as I do! It is a very good combination! I think over time we will learn to find the perfect balance between the advantages and the limitations of this amazing lens ;-). Have fun!

i have to agree the lens is good for street photography and that is what i use it for
i didnt like the 100 iso, im using a 400 iso film for my day shoots also, it makes the color stronger
