WWII era coastal gun emplacement

Visit to Camp Hero, site of the Cold War era Montauk Air Force Station. The Montauk Air Force Station and its radars guarded New York City against a surprise attack by Soviet bombers or missiles. The big AN/FPS-35 radar remained operational until 1980. It is the only intact example of its kind left in the U.S.
