One of the most beautiful mosque in Malaysia

For Malaysians, the name Masjid Kristal ( Crystal Mosque) needs no further introduction. Since it was built in the year 2006 till its completion and official opening early this year, the mosque is often paraded as a symbol of Islamic modernisation in Malaysia.

The Crystal Mosque or Masjid Kristal is a mosque in Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, Malaysia. The mosque is located at Islamic Heritage Park on the island of Wan Man. The mosque was constructed between 2006 and 2008. It was officially opened on 8 February 2008 by 13th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin of Terengganu.

Actually it wasn’t built from crystal (as in Bohemian crystal and such) but from cystal-like glass and metal works as the support. My first impression when I first saw the mosque was that it was a beautiful mosque. It is located on the right bank of the Terengganu River and accessible by good metalled roads built on reclaimed land. The dome and the four pillars are wrapped in metal plates which looked like bronze material. Each panel reflects the lights at certain angles which thus provides the “crystal” looks.
