Bergbahn (Mountain Tram)

Old style cars of the Pöstlingbergbahn in Linz/Austria.

They are used on weekends when there is more visitors to the Pöstlingberg Church and park.

The tram leading up on Pöstlingberg was originally built in 1898. It's the steepest adhesion tram in Europe. It saw mahor renovations both to rails and cars in 2008/2009.

The original track gauge of 1.000 (thousand) millimeters (1 meter) was dropped and replaced by that of the Linz city tram which is 900mm thus allowing the mountain tram to use the city trams track and go to the Main Square of Linz. New cars were purchased and some of the old ones were adapted. The bodywork remained from the old cars and the chassis were take from the Lisboa tram, the only other in Europe with a 900mm gauge and the climbing power needed.
