Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Old Simon - a church that is located on the left bank of the Moskva River, in the borders of the former Simonova settlement. The first mention of this temple belong to 1370, when the site was founded Simonov monastery. The monastery was built a small wooden church. According to legend, it served as St. Theodore, a nephew of St. Sergius of Radonezh. Once in 1379, the monastery was moved to another place, church remained. In the years 1509-1510 on the site of a wooden, built a new stone domed church. Wooden building refectory and the bell tower was rebuilt in stone only at the end of the XVIII century, and in the middle of the XIX century they built and improved, so in the refectory added two chapels of St. Nicholas and St. Sergius.
