Winter Hits Burnley
By late November the South Pennines are cold. Snow falls and lies on the moors which look down on our gritty, independent spirited town. Burnley stands the cold well. We put on our big coats and walk the town, enjoying the last of the Autumn leaves and the first of the snows down here. The November light is gentle and slanting but still full of contrast; it picks out the sandstone of the buildings well. In the town there is little snow but the hills which cluster all around are dappled with frost and ice. The field show through the covering of white here and there giving a mottled effect that shows up well in black and white.
