April 27, 2011 Tornado Anniversary - Damaged Forest

Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day in 2014 was on the 3rd anniversary of the April 27, 2011 tornado outbreak. Years later the damage is still visible from the passing of an F5 tornado, the largest tornado at the top of the rating scale. I witnessed the passing of this monster.

As I started to take the photos rain started sprinkling. Before long I was wet taking these photos. I had planned to have the film processed the next day, but weather stepped in again. Severe weather struck again that day, with a tornado destroying homes and killing people on the other side of the county.

This view is looking across the field at a forest that was ravaged by the tornado. The trees that weren't destroyed had limbs broken off. Years later it's still easy to follow the path of the storm just from the broken trees.
