Newcomer of the Week: fmonteiro

As a professional photography graduate, Fernando never goes out without carrying at least one camera and treats it as an integral part of his body. Although he uses both digital and analog gear, he still regards using film as a more intimate way of creating images. Let’s all welcome our newcomer from Brazil, Fernando Monteiro.

Fernando Luis Monteiro aka fmonteiro

Name: Fernando Luis Monteiro
LomoHome: fmonteiro
Location: Sao Paulo, Brazil

Please tell us something about yourself.

I started to enjoy photography when I was a kid. I was fascinated with my father’s Olympus Trip 35 camera so I’d always imagine how it is to take a photograph with it. I love to travel and I feel that traveling keeps your eyes very open. It helps my mind experience the similarity among cultures or even the simplicity of the environment. I studied and completed professional photography and it’s all thanks to my wife, Valeria, and to my parents who motivated me to make it happen. Now, I carry at least one camera with me whenever I go. It’s part of my body now.

How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

The invitation came from my friend Kevin Sears (ksears119). Seeing his great photographs motivated me to join the community.

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

You must take your camera everywhere you go. But this is not enough. You must also pay attention to everything that is happening around you. The result will be always be a good shot!

In this digital age, why still film?

I believe that by using film, you can have more intimacy with the process. Film is a material with amazing inherent qualities. It’s something unique and there is no chance for errors. Digital is very good. It’s excellent but you can not take a digital photo with the same emotion such as that taken with film. You really use your heart when taking picture with film.

Your favorite analogue camera as of the moment? Why?

I love my Nikon FM2 and Canon FTb. Both are easy to carry and very user-friendly.

What is the Lomographic camera you’d want to have someday?

Holga 120N. I admit it is my object of desire at the moment! Maybe, one day…

Any song or movie you live by?

A lot of songs, a lot of movies. I’m keyboardist in a band so it’s hard to like just only one. Try listening to “Madison Rose” by Philippe Saisse.

Any Community member you look up to? If so, why him or her?

Kevin Sears (ksears119). I love the easy and simple way he shows the places he visited with his family. I also like naiseta. I’m fascinated with her artistic photos! I’m new in this community so I’m confident that I’ll appreciate more and more members. I also hope to contribute reviews and tipsters to the magazine in the future.

What are you looking forward to in our community?

Making new friends, sharing experiences, and most importantly learning more about Lomography.
